When I was in fourth grade, the “preppy” look was all the rage. It was 1984 and everyone was wearing polo shirts in pastel colors and some form of penny loafers.
Surprise: Everything old is new again! The preppy look is happening again, though darker than it’s 1984 cousin. Pastels are also trending this spring but in a juxtaposed way (think peach leather moto jacket).
So when I found a sweet deal on some loafers last month, I knew I could finally be the prep I’d always wanted to be. OK, not really. But they are cute and easy to wear and pull my look together a bit. When I wear them with the right shirt, it looks more intentional. I look like I got dressed on purpose.

The shirt is Gap Outlet. The jeans are a generous skinny cut jean from Banana Republic (rewards points, anyone?). The shoes are Cynthia Rowley and were a bargain at TJ Maxx.
This is a real mom on-the-go look that’s super comfy. But I’m still not preppy. I don’t suppose I ever will be.
