31 Days: Why You Should Wear Jewelry

Can we talk for a minute about jewelry? And if your first thought is “no – I’m not a jewelry person” then you are exactly who I want to talk to.

I need you to know that one of the easiest ways to spruce up your outfit or add interest to your ‘uniform‘ is to add jewelry. It doesn’t matter how much you spend on it, or where you buy your jewelry. The important thing is that you wear it.
Cool?

When you accessorize properly, you really get a pass on so many things. When your accessories draw the attention, it doesn’t matter so much if the fit is a little off on one piece or another. Or if you are the only one in a t-shirt and jeans. Or if you are super tired and don’t feel like being where you are.

> EARRINGS will make your EYES shine. I don’t know why. I just know it’s true. And if they are earrings with movement, I am more inclined to look at you when you are talking. Because all of us have an inner raccoon who is attracted to shiny objects* (*not a fact).

> A NECKLACE will frame your FACE and make me want to look at you. Again with the shiny objects, but also helpful if you don’t want me examining your waistline. OR your bust line (a short necklace keeps the focus higher). A properly placed necklace can raise that gaze, ladies.

> BRACELETS highlight your slender WRISTS (aren’t they the most slender part of your body?) which are part of your expression zone since most of us use our hands when we talk. It’s so much more interesting to listen to you when I have a shiny object to look at (there’s that raccoon again).

> BELTS and SCARVES are not jewelry, but you can use them just as strategically. Especially when you add shiny pins to them…

For me the greatest jewelry pieces are those that can serve double (and triple) duty. My favorite thing to show ladies at jewelry shows is tricks with long necklaces. They can be so versatile and the company I represent makes sure their necklaces can be worn in more than one way.

THE THING YOU AREN’T DOING BUT YOU SHOULD with your necklaces? Layering them. Layer them. Wear more than one necklace at a time. You should also be doing that with your bracelets by the way.

If this is new to you, start by wearing just one more piece than you normally would. Next time add another. Six pieces is a good target (earrings, two necklaces, watch, two bracelets, a ring) but you can go with fewer pieces if you’d like.

ONE MORE THING YOU AREN’T DOING? Wearing a bracelet with your watch. On the same wrist. It makes your lovely watch look even more lovely.

Wouldn’t you love to see examples of these things? Tune in tomorrow for jewelry boards.

Tell me: Are you a jewelry person? Do you have a favorite piece of jewelry?
